MLC Goes On Its Annual Safari

Hello Madison Learning Center Yogis!

Thank you so much for inviting me back again to take another wild adventure with you! I had a great time traveling to Africa again for “Your SAFARI Yoga Journey.” Our trip was exciting and we met all kinds of interesting creatures. We also learned to put a series of poses together like with giraffe & tree poses. Putting one pose together with another one is called a vinyasa. Thevinyasa we tried is called a SUN SALUTE. This is a great way to start or end the day. Remember how we talked about how beautiful it is at sunset on the African wilderness? Try going outside sometime as the sun sets and notice how the light is different and how different sounds start to come out as the sun goes to sleep.

Take time to try all of the poses we practiced. Here are the poses we did on our adventure:

Balloon Breathing

Sun Stretches

Airplane
Jeep Driver (chair pose)
Snake
Crocodile
Lion
Monkey
Elephant
Giraffe and Tree
Sun Salutation (check out an animation at
http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yogapractice/sunsalutation.asp)
Savasana

I hope you enjoyed listening to the story about the Spark in the Dark by Richard Tichnor and Jenny Smith. The colors you came up with were amazing! The next time someone reads a story to you, try to close your eyes and use your wild imaginations to think of your own pictures.

Have fun making your mask look like someone we met with our safari poses. Please leave a comment and tell me which was YOUR favorite friend.

I hope to see you again soon. Keep breathing deeply and have fun exploring new worlds. Remember to share your "Om, Shanti, Shanti, Peace" with others.

Namaste,

-Ms. Jen
